Provenance-Awareness in R
نویسندگان
چکیده
It is generally acknowledged that when, in 1988, John Chambers and Richard Becker incorporated the S AUDIT facility into their S statistical programming language and environment, they created one of the first provenance-aware applications. Since then, S has been spiritually succeeded by the open-sourceR project; however,R has no such facility for tracking provenance. This paper looks at how provenance-awareness is being introduced to CXXR (http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/projects/cxxr), a variant of the R interpreter designed to allow creation of experimental R versions. We explore the issues surrounding recording, representing, and interrogating provenance information in a command-line driven interactive environment that utilises a lazy functional programming language. We also characterise provenance information in this domain and evaluate the impact of adding facilities for provenance tracking.

Provenance in Systems for Situation Awareness in Environmental Monitoring
As environmental monitoring systems increasingly automate the collection and processing of environmental sensor network data, the technical components of such systems can automatically obtain and maintain higher levels of situation awareness—awareness of the monitored part of reality. In order to increase confidence in the correctness of situation awareness maintained by such systems it is impo...
متن کاملThe essential oils compositions of Iranian Oregano (Origanum vulgareL.) populations in field and provenance from Piranshahr district, West Azarbaijan province, Iran
Objective: Origanum vulgare L. is rarely cultivated in Iran but it is the only species of the Origanum genus growing wild in this country. O.vulgare L. is widely spread all over the country. In this study, parameters of content, composition and antioxidant activity of the essential oils of domestic and wild Iranian Oregano populations were compared with one another. Materials and Methods: The...
متن کاملPetrography, Major and Trace Elemental Geochemistry of the Ordovician-Silurian Siliciclastics in North of Tabas Block, Central Iran: Implications for Provenance and Paleogeography
The upper part of Shirgesht (UPS) and lower part of Niur (LPN) formations (Ordovician-Silurian) consist of sandstone, shale and limestone, respectively. The petrography and geochemical analysis conducted to evaluate provenance of siliciclastic deposits in order to understand the paleogeography of Central Iran during the Early Paleozoic time. This study shows that quartz and K-feldspar are the m...
متن کاملTrusted Computing and Provenance: Better Together
It is widely realised that provenance systems can benefit from greater awareness of security principles and the use of security technology. In this paper, we argue that Trusted Computing, a hardware-based method for establishing platform integrity, is not only useful, but immediately applicable. We demonstrate how existing Trusted Computing mechanisms can be used for provenance, and identify th...
متن کاملAutomatically Adapting Source Code to Document Provenance
Being able to ask questions about the provenance of some data requires documentation on each influence on that data’s existence and content. Much software exists, and is being developed, for which there is no provenance-awareness, i.e. at best, the data it outputs can be connected to its inputs, but with no record of intermediate processing. Further, where some record of processing does exist, ...
